Summer is just around the corner and many people are panicking about their weight. They are saying how it stinks to be over weight this time of year and they are tired of being fat! They are looking for miracle weight loss products, joining online programs and running to the gym. What they forget is that it is more the case of not being their healthiest that matters the most. Walking is not as harmful for bodies that have not exercised in a long time. This is especially true for those who are carrying their weight in the mid section. That belly fat is strenuous on your heart and walking helps flatten the tummy quickly.
You will want to check with your doctor first before starting any exercise regiment. If you doctor agrees, this is how you should begin:
Use a good pair of walking shoes. They do not have to be expensive; you want a pair that is not broken down from years of use and preferably new.
Wear loose and comfortable clothing. You do not need any constricting elastic around your chest, waste and ankles while you are conditioning your body to move again.
Stretch before you walk. There is nothing worse than pulling a muscle when beginning a new exercise routine. This can delay your ability to continue for quite some time.
Start walking at a regular pace. Just start off slow and steady. You can pick it up a little bit, though you should always have the ability to hold a conversation normally (no huffing and puffing at all when you are first starting to walk). There have been recent studies that explain that if you start off slowly, then gradually increase pace and then gradually slow down again, you will not only obtain the optimal fat-burning level for your body, but also get it to burn more fat from the slight increases and decreases in pace.
The goal is to raise your basal metabolic rate to burn more calories throughout the day and develop your muscles. Suck your stomach in as you are doing this and you will shock yourself with excellent results in a short span of time. Of course the heavier you are, the faster you loose at first. This fat burning “trick” will mean MUCH more later as you are getting closer to your goal weight. By then, you can add aerobics and toning exercises.
